Extreme BASE jumper and wingsuit pilot “Bird Man” Jeb Corliss recently shared footage of himself crashing into Table Mountain during a BASE jump in South Africa. He spent five weeks recovering in a South African hospital from his injuries but has just recently returned home to Palm Springs, California. You may remember his insane wingsuit video, aptly named, Grinding the Crack.

Had the pleasure of attending a “Wine, Dine, Rock n Roll and more Wine” event last night. The tasting was hosted and presented by Cafe Boy in downtown Zürich. Smith, an ex rock band manager, is irreverent and opinionated. He has a larger than life personality with hair to match it. Charles makes some of the finest cool climate wines in the New World  and they have the “rumble” and presence to match the man behind the label. A self declared Syrah freak, his wines are big, opulent and ripe but are blessed with a super fresh acidity which makes them not only balanced but  highly drinkable. Ask me, I have the hangover to prove it…!

England rugby international Andrew Sheridan has been awarded his WSET Level 3 Advanced Award. The loosehead prop is apparently keen to continue his wine education and start on his diploma as soon as possible. Sheridan gives new meaning to the phrase “gushing claret”!

Lets face it, we are hopelessly disconnected from the source of our foods, or even worse we dont want to know where it comes from. For the sake of convenience, we’ve lost our personal connection with who, how and where our food is grown. The price of mass produced, artificially “cheap” convenient food can be very high – both environmentally and socially. Luckily, backyard farming is a trend thats on the rise as well as the emergence of local farmers markets. There are many good reasons to join this movement including reducing your carbon footprint and enriching the local economy… not to mention the great outdoors-iness involved.

Mirroring beekeeping’s own ascendance, she found more than just a living: “This is the first time in my life when I’ve just felt absolutely on the right path.”

The “Man in Black” was born on the 26th February 1932 and died a mere 4 months after the death of his partner June Carter. We missed his birthday by a couple of days but what the hell, anytime is a good time to listen to Johnny!
