2011 was a slightly tricky harvest with strange weather patterns (misty rain between Christmas and the New Year coupled with a heat wave in January) playing havoc with fruit quality in certain areas. Wind stress during the growing season also made the dry winter more evident. Fortunately we were able to pick super quality fruit, albeit a week earlier than usual. The fermentations behaved themselves except for one small tank which needed to be “disciplined” and the overall quality of the resulting wine is awesome. Outside of the cellar we tried particularly hard to surf crappy waves, which seemed to close out before you could say “dump”, played boules until both arms were sore (see drinking arm) and ate some of the most sublime seafood. In a nut shell… nothing new, nothing improved, just way we always make it!
